Hi, I’m Linda, I’m currently working as a Company Accountant, I have been a ‘one
parent’ family since my children were 4 years and under, my twin daughters both went
to the Local College and my son went to Southampton University. Both my daughters
have their own businesses, and my son who got married two years ago has recently
given me a beautiful new Grand-daughter.
The motivation for starting my business
Coming from a world of Finance and Banking, when my children started school I decided
to work from home, I re-trained as an Accountant and took several part-time jobs
on a self-employed basis so that I could spend time with the children at school holiday
times etc, this was fine for a while but employers always say its OK to work from
home, but you increasingly find you spend more and more time in their office, until
it becomes expected that you will be there. That’s when I would look around for
something else to do. Eventually the children left home for College or University
and I looked around for something that Interested me not just working for the money.
Not having been ‘employed’ for over twenty years I was not looking for something
that would tie me down to nine to five, (I tried it but it was too restrictive) when
I was told about this opportunity I did the read up and the Maths! And couldn’t see
how I could lose, I am only at the beginning of this new career but already the income
is meaningful, I can earn a great deal from my Accounting work, but with no pleasure,
although the income is small at the moment from this opportunity, I can’t wait to
see what I have achieved each month, and each month it seems to double! I am looking
forward to a time not so far away now when I will be able to ‘retire’ from Accounting
altogether and just do this full time. I look back now and how I wish something
like this was around when my children were small. Instead, I will now be quite content
being able to spend plenty of time with my Grandchildren. Question: Did you know
that more than 3/4 of 20-40 year olds have not made any provision for their retirement?
Working for myself nor had I – but now I have started this, I do not have to even
think about it again! And just think those of you who start now who are in this
bracket will be able to retire so much earlier!
What I like most about the business
This business gives me the freedom to chose – I can chose when I want to work – I
can chose who I work with – I can chose to have time off when it suits me – and I
can chose how I work, basically I can be me!
What I plan to do with my income
I love animals and have been a vegetarian all my adult life, I plan to use some of
the income to help fund an Animal Sanctuary. Until then I am happy helping the
two legged variety pay less to live and have more time and money to enjoy life.
Advice I would give to someone considering starting this business
Don’t hesitate - Just go out there and do it – anyone can – If you lead a ‘normal’
life where you are in daily contact with people – you have your basis for the job.
Even if you don’t it’s an excuse to get out there, enjoy other peoples company,
have fun and make plenty of money doing it.
