Hello, my name is Laura and I am a first-time-mum to baby William who was born in
March 2009. I live in Tunbridge Wells and started this business up when William
was 6 months old. I first found out about this business when I was pregnant and
really wish I’d started it then! Being a mother hasn’t come naturally to me - I
suffered from post-natal depression – so I have used this business as ‘therapy’ and
to focus on something else other then dirty nappies and sleepless nights!
The motivation for starting my business
In the days before child (BC I like to call it!) I worked for Business Link Kent
as a business adviser, specialising in training and devlopment. I then became self-employed
and did similar work on a consultancy basis. Due to the current climate and government
cut backs, the funding for the projects I was working on was drying up and it was
becoming increasingly difficult to find work. I started this business because it
allows me to continue with the kind of self-employed home working that I was used
to and it allows me to be my own boss. I can also fit my work in around William
which means I can enjoy watching him grow up and don’t have to waste all my salary
on horrendous child care costs!
What I like most about the business
I love the fact that I can have my own business, but with all the security and support
of a fantastic team and a top-performing British plc behind me. My partner runs
a very successful business in Tunbridge Wells but he works exceptionally hard and
very long hours to achieve and maintain that success. He has recently expanded the
business and opened a retail outlet – incurring very high start-up costs and again
lots and lots of hard work! I love this business because it very quick and easy
to get yourself up and running and by consistently putting in a little bit of effort
every day you can achieve great things. I have also met some wonderful people and
made many new friends.
What I plan to do with my income
Next year we are planning to move, so it will be helpful to have an extra income
– every little counts! In the longer term, I hope that the income I earn from this
business will be allow us to make choices that previously seemed out of reach – such
as private school fees and healthcare. And I am a very independent person so it
is very important for me to have my own money and not be reliant on someone else.
After all, you never know what’s around the corner…..
Advice I would give to someone considering starting this business
This is such a fantastic opportunity – don’t ponder over it for months like I did
– do it now!!! The sooner you start the sooner you earn! This is a truly risk free
way to start a business, with fantastic training and a phenomenal support network.
If you waited for the right time to have children you would never do it – well it’s
exactly the same with this business. The time is right NOW! I’ll leave you with
this quote:
“It’s in moments of decision that your destiny is shaped….”
I look forward to working with you!
