Hi, my name is Heather, and I live in Kent with my husband and 2 sons, Liam (13) and Ciaran (11). Since my sons were babies I wanted to bring them up myself and have always fitted work around them - both employed and self-employed. My husband is self-employed so we often have shared the childcare between us.  With such a variation of work experience on my CV – including a laboratory technician in schools, telesales, call centre assistant, lettings negotiator, waitress, a home –based catalogue business and a self-employed estate agent, I quickly realised that I just love the freedom of working for myself.

 

At the moment, I work my business around my family and my part-time job where I sell advertising space for a national magazine – not an easy job to do in the current economic climate! Despite having a science degree, I have never made a proper career of the work I have done; and so the fantastic career I have ahead of me with this business is something I have never achieved before.     

 

The motivation for starting my business

Having children has opened so many new doors for me, and given me the confidence and reason to strive for a “better” lifestyle.  For someone who loves a challenge and variety on a daily basis, this business was the perfect solution to pay off the debt I had incurred from my previous estate agency business. I wanted to prove that I could be successful in my own business, and continue to have the flexibility to be around for my family.

 

What I like most about the business

When I looked at this business I could see how I couldn’t possibly fail – where I had with two previous businesses. The systems and support in place are ‘second to none’ -  ensuring that whatever your background or experiences in life you will succeed.  What job pays you for helping other people to succeed in their career?? – as in this business you benefit both personally and financially for helping others to build their business. Backed by a secure and rapidly growing company and being well-placed in an exploding industry – that thrives in recessions – we all have a great future in this business.

What I plan to do with my income

To “sack my boss” at my part-time job in the short-term, so that I can give more time to building my business, and be there for my sons during the school holidays. The growing, secure monthly income from my business  will pay the mortgage and bills whilst my husband builds his new business. Also, our bungalow urgently needs extending to give more space and privacy to my sons – which my business will help to pay for.

 

The financial freedom that this business will give my family in the long term, will allow us to holiday in countries which I have wanted to visit for many years – I love travelling  and have spent my younger years “roughing - it” around the world.  I would like to give my sons the opportunities that I was given, such as attending university and pursuing my passions. This business will give us the funds to build a portfolio of rental properties, as property developing is another interest of my mine. Finally, to retire at 50 with complete financial independence is my ultimate dream.

 

Advice I would give to someone considering starting this business

You will be surprised at what you can achieve by consistently working on this business – doing a little everyday. If you have been or always wanted to be self-employed, but were scared of the risk involved – this business is for you.  A “win win” business, that will allow you to take total control of your life and pursue your passions; whilst growing as a person. You can have a lot of fun with this business as it is all about people.  

Life is about enjoying what you do when you are working ….. and if you don’t give it a go you will never know …..  you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
